Museum of NH History;
NH Historical Society
Concord, NH

Adaptive re-use of the 1878 Stone Warehouse at Eagle Square in Concord for The Museum of New Hampshire History. The entire building (20,000 square feet) was rehabilitated to provide exhibition galleries, museum store, collections storage, and curator offices and work spaces. Construction completed fall 1994; the museum opened in April of 1995.

Mascoma Savings Bank
Windsor, Vermont

Design of a new branch bank building of 4,600 square feet in the Federal style, to replace a historic structure. Historic restoration of adjacent bank-owned building to be used for professional office space.


State Office Building
Springfield, VT

Renovation of two historic mill buildings in downtown Springfield into regional offices for nine state agencies. Offices are designed to take advantage of an earlier technology for natural day lighting, exposing the mill’s historic structure while accommodating sensitive and demanding public agencies’ work environments. Construction complete March 1999. 45,000 square feet; construction cost $5.8 million.

Waterbury Railroad
Waterbury, Vermont

Banwell Architects led a team including historic preservation consultants, engineers, and economic development analysts to research original appearance and construction of 125-year-old passenger train station. The work of this study was the basis of a successful Transportation Enhancement Act 21 (TEA-21) federal grant for restoration.

Downtown Design Program
Bennington, Vermont

In association with The Cavendish Partnership, we developed scenarios for the adaptive re-use of upper stories of several historic buildings in the central business district, handicapped access to those buildings, and improvements to the rear facades, to increase their retail commercial viability.

Estey Organ Complex
Brattleboro, Vermont

Recording and analysis of adaptive re-use potential of the historic Estey Organ Industrial Complex (circa 1870). Approximately 200,000 square feet in 14 buildings. We were responsible for architectural and construction issues as part of a multi-disciplinary team led by The Cavendish Partnership.
