New Addition for Proctor Academy (continued)
The existing basement is used for storage for maintenance. The proposed plan calls to combine all of the arts under one roof: ceramics, visual arts, jewelry, architecture, photography as well as add office spaces, a general use classroom, storage space and a gallery space to show student art as well as visiting artists work. The building will keep the original main timber frame structure and add a new addition to the east and north side for a new entry and new basement space for ceramics. The new addition will also wrap the artist’s gallery around the east and north so that it will be visible from many points on campus. The basement area will be renovated into a ceramics studio and photography. Additional windows will be added to the south wall in the basement and the courtyard, which is right off the main footpath that runs east to west on campus, will have brick pavers, a new natural stone retaining wall and will provide an area for casual seating and a sculpture display. The entire building envelope will be upgraded with new insulation, new windows and new exterior siding and will include sunshades for solar glare control. Building utilities will be fully upgraded including a new mechanical system, new electrical, fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
