Allen Brook School (Williston, VT) $5M
A new K 4 primary school for 400 students. The school is organized into five largely self-contained, multi-age groups of learning spaces, or Houses, that accommodate up to 80 students. Each of the Houses includes four flexible teaching areas that can be reconfigured using demountable partitions; a common gathering space, or Kiva, with stepped seating that is used for meetings, presentations, and informal reading; as well as support spaces. The Houses are accessed from a colorful, daylit circulation spine that also links shared facilities such as the Library, Art, Music, Gymnasium, Dining, and Administration. This allows easy zoning of the building for community use after school hours. The project included off-site utility and traffic improvements.
Crossett Brook Middle School (Waterbury, VT) $7.8M
68,000 square feet new construction. The Crossett Brook Middle School accommodates both Waterbury and Duxbury areas and was planned in coordination with a Master Plan for the Town of Waterbury. Common spaces for four multi-aged teams and classrooms with operable partitions support and foster interdisciplinary team teaching at the school. Special features include a challenging climbing wall located in the gymnasium, and greenhouse windows at each science lab.

The challenge was to create child-scale comfortable identities for groupings of grades that would humanize a very large elementary school.

The Mountain Club on Loon (Lincoln, NH) $14.7M
The Mountain Club on Loon is an all-season resort with 117 suites, health club, and support facilities occupying a unique site in New Hampshires White Mountains. The facility is at the same time perched on the banks of the Pemigewasset River and slopeside to Loon Mountain. The Mountain Club is carefully shaped to fit into the sloping site, with tiered and segmented massings angled to diminish the apparent height of this 7-story facility. The final product is angular ridgelines evocative of the surrounding mountain terrain. A footpath connects guest facilities, including a complete fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, racquetball and squash courts, childcare center, teen center, general store, and deli. Construction of the Mt. Club was designed and phased to allow continuous operation of the original inn, which occupied a portion of the site and was relocated as employee housing.
